I don’t know how I feel about white cats. I have never had one. They do look beautiful but also a bit too distant or angelic, I really don’t know why I can’t warm to them. But I am going to find out more about them, hoping that will help.
Abundant
My cold attitude towards white cats is not reflected in their popularity in the arts. They are abundant in books and movies. Of course there is Duchess from The Aristocrats; the fluffy white Persian being stroked by villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in several 007 movies; and Karl Lagerfeld with his precious white Persian Choupette.

They do look very Hollywood, don’t they. I found out some fun facts about white cats:
- Their snow white coat is caused by the dominant W gene, known as the masking gene. The W gene ‘hides’ every other coat color and pattern gene.
- Many white cats are also deaf, which is also caused by the W gene. (Not so much fun, this fact)
- Many cultures perceive the white cat to bring you luck.
- Several US presidents had a white cat in the White House.
I don’t know about that last one as cats of all colours have lived in the White House. I found an interesting article on hepper.com that gave an overview of ‘presidential’ cats.
Wilma’s Tulip Field Days
I am blogging about different cat furs because in the free book I am writing, Stragna Woman has to collect different colour cat furs. It’s all a bit of a mix up but in the book the tabby is the hardest to come by. I love cats of all colours and am even warming more towards white cats now I have read a bit more about them.
What about you? Have you got a white cat or ever had one? What is your impression about white cats?
