This blog is not about having or not having children. It’s about reading to open up your mind and how necessary it is to read a lot if you write yourself. And about the need to read indie writers…
Four on the go
If I look into my current Goodreads reading list I am on 10+ books. That’s not true, at the moment I am only actively reading four books. Apart from the Dutch book above, which I so hope gets translated into English and published as beautifully as its original. It’s not an angry book nor a defensive one. It is just stating the fact that having children should not be seen as a given for women. I am on the fifth chapter and I will post a review when I have finished.
So how are your new year’s resolutions going? Yep… One of mine was to review an indie book each month. We indie writers need to be reviewed! It’s mid-February and I have reviewed zilch, zero, nada. So what do you do when your resolutions aren’t up to scratch? Yep. You modify them. It is called: being flexible. My new resolution is: write 12 indie book reviews this year, at least.
I have two of those on the go:

I came across Audrey Driscoll on her WordPress blog. I liked her blog, found out she is also an indie writer and asked her for some recommendations. In her reply she mentioned her own book last so I started with that one. That is how my mind works. I already was reading an indie book I had came across in a FB group, and although I am enjoying it, it’s a book I can only take in small bits.

Bloody Social Worker is the title of the third book I am reading. Although it is written well, I can only take it in in small doses because of its content. Again, I will review this book after I have finished, but I am already impressed.

I have a huge cold at the moment so haven’t been out walking as much as I like to. When I walk, I sometimes like silence to hear my own thoughts, but I also like listening to audio books. Some books require time to appreciate and I think, for me this book is one of them. I do like Kate Humble’s narrative voice and trust the great reviews she got. Hopefully I can listen again soon.
More time for indie writers
In all, I am reading four very different books to suit my mood but this year’s dedication is to indie writers. I am such an avid reader that it was a shock to realise I had hardly any indie writers in my bookcase. Traditionally published writers get pushed to your attention all the time. It’s easy to be reading them constantly.
Why don’t we make more time for indie writers? If they have been edited professionally, the writing quality is the same. I would recommend downloading a free sample first to see if this is the case. And if it is, enjoy, there are so many new worlds out there to explore!
