I hadn’t even realised there would be a swimming pool in the hotel – I love my swim – when I encountered this beauty on our trip to Copenhagen in September. We were there for only two nights so I only got to swim twice; we did want to see something of the gorgeous city as well. We have been back for two weeks and I still miss it and am completely resolved to start swimming again in Leeuwarden.
What I loved about the Copenhagen pool was that it was a circle where people swam in one direction. If you followed the black line on the tiles, it was exactly 100 metres. The middle of the circle was filled with an instruction area; that’s where the little bridge on the photo goes. And best of all the boisterous toddlers, screaming babies and their parents were in a neighbouring pool — it was huge — behind closed doors, you couldn’t hear them. Bliss.
A while ago I wrote that walking is my thinking place — it is but recently I have been listening to audio books. I just finished Rememberings by Sinead O’Connor, which was all the more special because she herself spoke. And today I started the latest instalment of my favourite detectives Robin and Strike, called The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith who we all know is JK Rowling. I could switch it off during my walks but it’s too good.
So I’m going to start swimming again, and make it my new thinking place. What about you, do you like swimming? Where and when do you swim? Does it help with your writing?
